Text in textarea not showing [Fixed]

Okay, I don't doubt for a second this is a stupid, stupid newbie question and I'll probably spot the glaring mistake the second I post this but looking at the source for my page I've got

<div id="page">

    <div id="content"><div>
<textarea id="newbiearea1" name="newbiearea1" rows="10" cols="50" style="width: 100%">
    <b>Please enter the your Index page content here<b /></textarea>

</div>    </div>
    <div style="clear: both;"> </div>
</div>

but the text isn't appearing in the editor, can someone put me out my misery and point out the obvious for me cos I'm just banging my head against the wall here.

There you go, 30 seconds, thats a new record. When I put the editor in a form it worked. I'm an idiot.
