xinha_confg.convertUrlsToLinks

I was reading on the config page that xinha_confg.convertUrlsToLinks only applies to Gecko browsers.  The bug reports say that IE's default behavior is to autocomplete links.  I'm just curious what exactly that means.  Does IE do it for all text areas?  Does this just impact Xinha?  Any resource out there that talks about the problem?
