Spellchecker problems

Dear all,
      So far I cannot make the spellchecker to work with any other language than english. To be more specific, I use iso8859-7 as the page enconding. While all english words are correctly checked for spelling errors, all Greek words are not even checked. I know that the spellchecker is working with utf8, but I cannot use utf8 to my web page. Is there any solution to that, or I simply have to forget the spell checking?
