Hi. I sent an email to james with my logo not knowing that there was a foruim thread about it already. Anyway, I just found Xinha today and I love it! I’ve tried about 15 other commercial and open source browser-based WYSIWYG editors but this is much better than all of them. I love it so much that I decided to whip up a logo for you. What do you guys think?

You should decide a date for a vote... or it won't be determined.. or perhaps you don't agree with the proposals...

Well, I always tend to like to keep it simple, so here is my contribution though Im no logo designer.
For a mini effect on the X one could do this :

I've never used it myself but AMFPHP used Advanced Poll from http://proxy2.de/scripts.php for their logo contest (AMFPHP is an open source php-flash remoting software - http://www.amfphp.org). You could also try something at hotscripts.com.

This is a simple play on what WYSIWYG means...
And a play on the promise many other WYSIWYG editors make, and break ;-)

I think the text "Xinha" should not appear anywhere in the logo. I like the chakram of hyp0r but i really dont like the text, well dont get me wrong, the text as it is on hyp0r proposition would fit good on the top left wiki pages, but with the text it is not a logo, it is a xinha ads, some kind of slogan.
Imo the logo should be just the chakram (eventually with a X inside). All the text can be later added on the wiki pages next to the logo. After seeing all the proposals so far, it seems like everyone want to fit all the space available on wiki pages, I think we should focus on a graphical representation but with absolutly NO text to explain (well "we" except me cause I have no talent and I dont understand Gimp2 A logo should not need a text to explain what the logo is. Again dont get me wrong, i am NOT saying you guys you must do that this way not this way. Just trying to give my 0.02 cents.
Keep up the good work guys

A logo should not need a text to explain what the logo is.
You are very right, however I disagree with you since Xinha doesnt have any money to blow away on marketing to build a brand name, hence it being darn hard making people associate the "icon" with Xinha... However we are all familiar with the different editors having a name, and all the other editiors use their name in the logo. Even Coca Cola and Pepsi does it,
But I agree witg you, building a brand with an Icon is cool and is the best, but you need to focus hard on marketing to make it happen - so if it were up to me I'd skip the "American stock-art logo" thingie, an icon and a name. Find a nice font and spell the name Xinha - maby throw in some nice colours or something on the name I would thinkn makes it swell.
Luckily Gogo gets the fun of deciding what logo to use,

I agree with you fully. Even if you spend lots of time marketing a product that has a logo that you can recognize without seeing the product name, you will still incorporate the name into the logo no matter what. Like Pepsi, you see the Pepsi logo you know what it is right? But the can still says Pepsi on it. Target stores advertise heavily with their logo, but still they spell it out, the store itself definitely says Target on the outside. If you take a look at www.target.com you will see that the top left of the page say "TARGET" but on the home page you will see the logo is used by itself at least a dozen times.

Hi all. Better late than never...

It's just an "X" transformed a bit to look like a bird. I could move the text to the upper left and make it bigger. Maybe cradle it in the bird's wings...
I'll play around with this in the next couple of days. Cheers!

a couple of variations...
I kinda like the logo, my only point was that I thought the X was rather large for the logo, meaning
that the logo eats alot of space when its used unless its supposed to overlap other elements if you
know what I mean.
The right / in the X almost becomes a large sword, so maby shrink this abit. But its only my
opinion.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. But I can't really get things to work aesthetically when I shrink the X. Here's the best I could do along those lines:
Somehow the balance just seems off to me. If anyone wants to play with this, I'd be happy to send the Illustrator files.
Personally, of mine, I like the previous two variations the best. I also like hyp0r's and adamp's.

I really like the style but I can't help it, I have to think of a kung-fu studio when I see it, not of a DHTML componant. I agree riftdesign that a logo should somehow represent the idea of the product. Furthermore it should be scalable, i.e. recognizable in 16*16 px, which should be quite hard for the red bird/sword.
I'm not a designer but I'll think about it
Offline
A kung-fu studio? Sweet! Glad I could make something bad-ass.
A logo that would scale to 16x16 would be great, but there are plenty of logos out there that don't. It's the difference between having a square logo versus a horizontal logo. Square can be strong and steady, while horizontal can impart a sense of movement and agility. Depends what you want. Check out Verizon Wireless' logo: http://www.verizonwireless.com. Doesn't scale to a small square, although with some tweaking they came up with a good browser icon (the red "V" with "vzw" underneath). Something similar could be done with my red "X".
Also, I'll note that many logos don't really represent the idea of the product. Verizon's logo isn't a phone; McDonald's logo isn't a hamburger; etc. That's not to say that Xinha shouldn't go that route, of course.

milli's logo is really awesome, I'd go for that one. hyp0r's logo is great too. completesite's logo would be fantastic without the shadows (the shadows behind behind the "XINHA" text, and tiny ones behind "WYSIWYG editor" are unnessecary imho).
imo, don't pick a logo with lots of effects 'n stuff going on. A problem nowdays is that it's so easy to add effects to pictures, like drop shadows, glows, bevel, satin etc. so people tend to overuse it a lot
