Ok all you budding arteeests, we need a logo for Xinha, below is one idea, but lets get some others so we have a bit of a selection to choose from!
ps: The Xin-Ha thing is purely coincidental. Ms. Lawless was a much bigger influence
I have an idea for the logo. It happens that I am in China, and "XIN" here means "NEW", hence "XIN HA" could well be "NEW HTMLArea". Then i tried to compose this in a decent manner. Here are two results:
Any suggestion for improvements is welcome.

The first one looks great, very cool.

I think that's fantastic! A great play on words.
Personally I like the top one better as well, but to my eye the line descending into the H doesn't look right. It seems to me that the pictograph should be a little higher and maybe proprtionally a bit smaller so there's a nice separation similar to the separation in the bottom one.
Just my $0.02.

I like this logo idea a lot! I can play around with this too if I could get the actual characters used. Can you share which characters they are in Unicode? Thanks!

I found a nice font that can be used for the logo, unfortunately I'm not a graphics expert, but I'm sure others will know their way around...
http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=2605
It's called the "Made In China"-Font..

I'd actually leave the the English text in that Arial Black or whatever font it is in the first logo.
The Chinese text already provides complexity and 'style' to the logo (at least for non-Chinese speakers) while the English text is simple and gets the name across clearly.
It's possible to take a theme too far (imo)

Fully d´accord with Yermo!
Is this going to be further discussed, or is this just going to be put in? I think the statement on the frontpage (...needs a logo) is damn right!! And when you have a look at the views of this thread, the interest in this theme doesn´t seem to be overwhelming..
My opinion. just grab it.

Here's another idea for a Xinha logo. It reflects the application and fits nicely with the other icons I made/modified, including the new wysiwyg toggle icon. (http://xinha.gogo.co.nz/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=89)

Here's another logo for ya. Colors n such can always be changed. The blue gradient was just some default setting that I tried and it looked pretty neat.

I just bumped on to your site and saw the need a logo thing, so here's mine.
I just thought of something else, this might look cool:

Nice look... I like this one hypOr!

hyp0r, maybe you should try making the word Xinha go "through" the middle of the chakram (the circly thing for those who are not familiar with the Warrior Princess) or something to bring them togethor somehow (perhaps the chakram could be "part of" the X in Xinha).
I like the tagline The only thing with the drop on the X is we wouldn't be able to have it over the grey bar like that unfortunatly.

I tried to work the chakram into the words, I put it behind the words, under the words, and it just didn't look good. So I went with placing it to the left of the text.

Personally, I think the logo should reflect what Xinha does, not focus on the name. Not that I don't mind the play on words in Xin-Ha or Xena. This isn't meant to be a plug for my logo design, but that is the approach I took...what does Xinha do? Just trying to keep it away from Xena fan sites, link lists, etc.
I like hyp0r's tagline too.

I'd still like to see the artistic talents of some more members, and have a vote, but my personal favorite at the moment is hyp0r's first one (with the tagline), my reason (compeletly subjective!) is
1. I like logos to have something graphical and not necessarily related, a mascot if you like, I think this is reflected in many open source motifs, eg Tux, the BSD Daemon, etc.. The use of a Chakra satisfies that goal
2. I also like products to have a tagline, again that's satisfied
3. I like the plain but bold typeface, and especially the dropped leg on the X just giving it a bit of interest
4. completly off the topic, but being a blatantly biased Kiwi, the Chakra (well, the fact that Xena uses a Chakra) gives it a small link to New Zealand :-D
But don't get me wrong, the others are also very good, the reason I prefer hyp0r's over them is just...
* rift's: I think that the dimensions of rift's are perhaps not right for a logo at the top of the trac which would better suit a landscape dimension rather than the portrait of his design
* mattia's: I'm not sure about having the chinese character there, for the simple reason is that it would be a bit of an "in joke" as it were, unless you were privvy to this thread (or whatever) you wouldn't know why we had this character as the logo, I also think it would look better in black
* macatak's: I quite like it, but I just prefer hyp0r's probably because it's simple black-on-white and it has that graphical component, I don't know, it's actually pretty close in "how much James likes them" points
But like I said, it's not my decision, this is a community driven open source project and the community shall decide.
We must have some other artistically inclined members out there somewhere to have a crack at it!

Vaguely inspired by Xena's shiny breast plate (ahem):

I'm not to hot on Davids "Don't steal images" logo, I'm not sure how this related to Xinha. I'm just giving you a hard time David. Maybe you should allow images to be seen by us if you want to show them to us.
If anyone wants to see it, just go here: http://www.1cog.com/public/xinha-1.gif
It shows up fine when you access it directly. It actually shows up in the forum after you go directly to the the image.

James, thanks for sorting out the hot linking problem - I forgot about it .
A variation which I prefer:

Best not use mine anyway...I just found an application called skEdit that has a very similar icon.

Bit of a convoluted concept for such a simple logo, but thought I might as well post it hehe.

I think adamp's logo is quite appropriate and clever, perhaps making the >< look more like an X would help.
Offline
Yeah, it's more a proof of concept than a finished logo - anyone feel free to tinker with the idea

I am NOT an artsy type but I thought I would give it a shot. These are more to give real artists some ideas. Well here goes...
If anyone wants, I can make the photoshop files available...
