Couple of Quick Questions

Hi Guys,

I can't really find the answers i need on your forum so i'll just ask you the questions myself...

First off - Xinha is amazing!! I had been using HTMLArea3 but firefox 1.0.4 doesnt like it very much which is kinda naff.

Question No. 1 : "Clear MSOffice Tags" is an AMAZING idea! But, for some reason it's not in my version of Xinha (I downloaded the latest version today from the web site). Is their a specific plugin that I am missing or is it something that I need to enable? I am running Windows 2003. I haven't looked at the source because I don't speak javascript but if someone knows where the problem is then that'd be great!

Question No. 2 : What are the differences between "Form" and "Form Operations"? As far as I can see, they both do the same sorta stuff.

Question No. 3 : The "Enter Paragraphs" plugin doesn't seem to have any effect on my editor. Should it? Or is it quietly working in the background? I can't find any documentation on this plugin. I have to admit the documentation for plugins is quite thin. I'm sure i'd be willing to help with that - but it kinda helps to know what they all do before hand.

Question No. 4 : Is it ok to edit the php on plugins like the linker and ImageManager. I have written my own CMS and have different directories for each web site on the CMS - editing stuff like that won't make the Xinha insecure or anything like that?

I think that's basically it... Hope you guys can help out on these questions.

Cheers,

Andy

Re: Couple of Quick Questions

"Clear MSOffice Tags"

Not sure on this one.  As I recall it's a built in.  If it displays in the full_example with no plugins selected then it should display in your editor providing you don't modify the toolbar.

"Form" and "Form Operations"

They do similar things, FormOperations uses a panel-based interface and handles less attributes of the forms & elements.

The "Enter Paragraphs" plugin doesn't seem to have any effect on my editor.

This plugin is a special one, it works in the background, and only with Gecko based browsers, it (tries to) makes the behaviour when pressing the enter key in these browsers to be "correct" (and in line with IE) in that it creates a new paragraph instead of just inserting a <br /> tag.  You don't need to explicitly load EP, you just set xinha_config.mozParaHandler to 'best'  (there is some debate as to whether it really is 'best' and you might be better to just use 'built-in' and have <br/>s instead of paragraphs).

Is it ok to edit the php on plugins like the linker and ImageManager.

It's open source, free both as in beer and speech, so do whatever you like to it ;-)  Linker particularly you are very likely to want to create your own backend.

Re: Couple of Quick Questions

Thanks for the quick reply. I have had a look at the example and I can see "Clear MSOffice Tags" - yet I can't on the actual version that I am running.

http://cms.eewd.co.uk/xinha/examples/full_example.html proves that all is well and working.

I then just took the body frame and noticed that it wasn't there!! http://cms.eewd.co.uk/xinha/examples/fu … -body.html

Why is this? It seems odd that the full example will happily display it, but the actual body of the example doesn't have it by default!

Any ideas??

Cheers,

Andy
