Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

in general i do like mialinglists more than a forum like xinha has it. but i think it is too late to change...

anyway, i would love to see a Trac-Tickets-Mailinglist likve edgewall has it here:
http://projects.edgewall.com/trac/wiki/MailingList

would this be managable? there sure is a script/setting with trac(?)

thanks
niko

Re: Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

yeah, it's a good idea. I have no clue about how it can works, but it would be nice. I personally prefer to use newsgroups but sounds a lot more complex to do than a mailing list.

What about a RSS ? looks easier, could be done quite easily with php or any other server side language.

Re: Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

I don't like mailing lists, because I never get around to reading them smile

As for your question, I don't think there is a setting in trac for that, at least not to my knowledge.  This RSS feed is probably the best way to keep track of ticket changes...

http://xinha.python-hosting.com/timelin … format=rss

(you'l see RSS buttons on the bottom of many trac pages, click them to get the feed smile)

Re: Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

...you can read/post mailinglists using newsgroups (gmane.org)

...the RSS-feed is great, but i don't get every change, i only get ticket created and ticket resolved - i want to know too if there has been a change to a ticket! (currenlty i have look through all tickets to see if there are any new comments!)
..is that possible?

Re: Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

oh, didnt noticed the RSS feed but think it's because it doesnt appear on custom query (of course eheh, dumb me), and yeah i'm using only custom querys tongue /bonk me

Thanks niko for gmane.org, wasnt aware of such great thing, sounds like the perfect solution for most of my disliked mailinglists.

Re: Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

OK, it is a feature of trac.. I've asked python-hosting if they can setup a ticket notification email to go to a mailing list I'll setup.  Just depends wether they (PH) will do so on the freetrac accounts, I'll post here when they get back to me.

Re: Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

Python hosting doesn't offer this in the freetrac account which we have for Xinha.  If somebody wants to donate $150 for it we can get a paid account for a year which would give us the ability to configure trac however we want.

Anybody wanting to stump up the cash for that let me know.

Oherwise, make do with the RSS feed smile

Re: Mailinglist (Trac-Tickets)

I've been trying to set trac up on my backup server recently. If I can get it working, I'm happy to host the Xinha trac with whatever else is needed.

We'l be leaving it with PH for three reasons...
1. keeping it neutral, if a Xinha user/developer hosts it then it could get difficult if they lose interest
2. PH knows what they are doing with Trac and SQLite - I know what I'm doing most of the time, but was completely unsuccessful in keeping trac running smoothly
3. We already moved there :)

I'll also point out that I added an RSS link for the forums too.  Just gives you the most recently active threads smile  See the link at the top of page.
