Span vs. Font Depreceated Font Tags

The only thing I can find in the documentation on this is to set  xinha_config.getHtmlMethod = "TransformInnerHTML";

Basically I want the span tag instead of the old depreceated font tags.  Is there another place to set this or am I just putting the above choice in the wrong place?  I tried it in a few places but it seems like it should go above step 4 when adding it in the head code.  Or is that not the right code for what I want? 

If it's supposed to be active by default, is it possible I bypassed it somehow with a bad path, etc. ??

This is done by the browser, which you may notice if you use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. It may be possible to implement such behaviour, but it hasn't been done yet. You may want to post this as an Enhancement in the tickets
