Superclean/Tidy Server drops. Workaround?

The server that Superclean sends Tidy requests to (http://infohound.net/) seems to go down a decent amount. Technically the server still responds, but it just hangs, so code to just check for a response doesn't work. Is it possible to have SuperClean detect when the website is too slow to be useful and have it switch to an alternate URL (or a local mode)?
